چکیده
The photoacoustic effect produced by laser-induced stress waves in liquids has found a variety of scientific and practical applications in industry, medicine and environmental protection. The photoacoustic effect has the natural advantage of being less sensitive to scattering than traditional optical tools, thus offering increased accuracy and sensitivity. This paper aims to give a systematic outline of photoacoustic techniques, starting to the production and extending to the propagation and detection of photoacoustic waves. The focal point is the production of acoustic waves with maximum amplitude and minimum distortion. Maximum amplitude plays an essential role in photoacoustic spectroscopy and minimum distortion is the key to the determination of optical distribution and imaging in turbid media.

Determination of the nonlinearity parameter of the liquid using spherical finite-amplitude photoacoustic pulse
A method for measurement of the nonlinearity parameter B / A of liquids by means of a spherical finite-amplitude photoacoustic pulse is described. The photoacoustic pulse is generated by the laser-induced breakdown mechanism. The relation between B / A and the decrement of rise time of wavefront of the acoustic pulse during its propagation is given. The nonlinearity parameter of water is obtain...
متن کاملSensitive wavelength-modulated photoacoustic spectroscopy with a pulsed optical parametric oscillator.
With a laser-excited acoustic wave as the carrier wave and by modulation of the light wavelength of a multikilohertz-repetition-rate optical parametric oscillator at a lower frequency than the acoustic frequency, we demonstrate a wavelength-amplitude double-modulation technique and achieve an enhancement factor of 35 in sensitivity in photoacoustic trace gas detection with the technique.
متن کاملSteep. Short-Crested Waves and Related Phenomena
Steep, short-crested waves, as well as a large variety of three-dimensional propagating wave patterns have been created in laboratory, utilizing a plunging half-cone. Monochromatic waves, over a range of frequencies and amplitudes through breaking and including soliton wave groups near resonance, have been observed and studied in a small wave flume. This monochromatic wavemaker creates complex ...
متن کاملSynergy of photoacoustic and fluorescence flow cytometry of circulating cells with negative and positive contrasts.
In vivo photoacoustic (PA) and fluorescence flow cytometry were previously applied separately using pulsed and continuous wave lasers respectively, and positive contrast detection mode only. This paper introduces a real-time integration of both techniques with positive and negative contrast modes using only pulsed lasers. Various applications of this new tool are summarized, including detection...
متن کاملB-Mode Photoacoustic Imaging using Linear Array: Numerical Study for Forward-Backward Minimum Variance Beamformer Combined with Delay-Multiply-and-Sum
Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is a promising medical imaging modality which provides the resolution of Ultrasound (US) and the contrast of Optical imaging modalities. One of the most important challenges in PAI is image formation, especially in the case that a linear-array US transducer is used for data acquisition. This is due to the fact that in the linear-array scenario, there is only 60 degre...
